EWWW Image Optimizer

I have installed EWWW Image Optimizer on many of my sites now. It trawls through your media gallery (and NextGen Gallery if you have that too) and optimizes the images it finds, reducing many by 10% or so with lossless compression.

  • Backup your site then install the plugin from your admin panel or from the WordPress repository here http://wordpress.org/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/
  • Check you have the required server features.
  • Select the option to ‘Delete originals’ upon successful conversion.
  • Run ‘Bulk optimize’ from the Media menu.
  • If you have NextGen installed, run ‘Bulk optimize’ from the Gallery menu too.

This will lead to faster load times on your pages. If you have a caching plugin such as W3 Total Cache, be sure to rebuild the cache to take advantage of the page speed increases.
